In 2010 , FIFA Ballon d’Or was introduced as the governing body merged its yearly World Player of the Year award with France Football’s annual Ballon d’Or prize.
Fifa ran a separate World Player of the Year award from 1991 until 2009.
The award has been given by France Football every year since 1956, but for the past six years it became the Fifa Ballon d’Or in association with world football’s governing body.
The end of the partnership could see the return of FIFA’s World Player of the Year award, with president Gianni Infantino and other officials planning a potential replacement ceremony.
As part of this, FIFA is said to be looking into moving the event around different cities each year, with London top choice to hold the first one.
